When the luxury goods company Hermès decided to create a special limited edition of Homage to the Square silk scarves, they printed them in the same manner as the Gray Instrumentation prints. Each ink was applied directly to the white silk, with no ink on top of one another. The range of inks available for these scarves, and the remarkable machinery with which Hermès makes scarves in their factory in Lyon, led to very beautiful results. The scarves, which were sold in special cases with books about the process of their making, were a fantastic critical success, with almost as much press coverage as has ever occurred for any project concerning work by either of the Alberses, either during their lifetimes or since.
