American Friends of Le Korsa

American Friends of Le Korsa (AFLK) was established by the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation in 2005 to give support to medical and educational facilities in rural Senegal, West Africa. The needs of a struggling population to combat poverty and illiteracy and improve their everyday living conditions were issues close to the hearts of the Alberses, who experienced great hardship while always treasuring the beautiful possibilities of existence. In Pulaar, the dialect of the African language of Fula which is spoken in the region of eastern Senegal we serve, "Korsa" means "love". The goal of our organization is to improve human health and provide educational and cultural opportunities so that a population in need can flourish and enjoy the miracles of everyday existence, and to do so with a spirit of love. We personally visit the communities we serve to understand the exact needs of the local people. To assure that our support fulfills these needs, we work in full collaboration with local building contractors, educators and medical professionals to guarantee a project's sustained success. We assist a range of projects that give unprecedented hope and save lives in the communities to which we are closely connected. Providing care and opportunities that would otherwise be unavailable, AFLK tangibly transforms lives.
